GOSPLAN 2 On Demand Printing.

1 INTRODUCTION.

Gosplan has been developed to fulfil the needs of industries that have a mass production of diversified products that have a relatively short production time ranging from minutes to a few days.

GOSPLAN 2 is optimised to manage the production of printed documents including text, graphics and high resolutions colour photographies (on demand printing).

Gosplan uses graphical user-friendly tools to manage the printing tasks. A document is followed since his creation to the delivery at the customer. It is possible in the same time to supervise the activity of production centres in real time, and to optimise the production planning.

Products are delivered in time at the minimum possible cost.

GOSPLAN is very versatile. At any time the planning can be modified according to new events.

GOSPLAN has been conceived to go through year 2000 without problem.

It is multi-lingual. It is on the market since 1992.

2 DESCRIPTION.

GOSPLAN 2 has been designed to:

Every task of every order is represented on the graphical display as a ticket which length is proportional to the task's production duration. Time is normalised such a way that only working hours are represented. GOSPLAN 2 takes into account machines productivity.

Because of this continuous representation planning anomalies are easily detected as voids are appearing between tickets or constraints are violated.

A Present Time line his displayed that separate the remaining part of the day's working hours.

The planning display represents also the load of every production centre.

GOSPLAN offers user - friendly interactive tools.

Planning optimisation is made by grabbing a ticket with the mouse and displaces it to another location. During the short time interval between the two clicks of the mouse, GOSPLAN must review all the tasks, verify that no constraints are violated, refresh the display, etc.

3 DATA BASE.

The database includes all the elements for orders, planning as well as royalty's payment management.

Registration date of every order, start and finishing date of every task a registered in a "logbook" file as well as the task's production machine.

It is the core of an ISO9000 quality control management.

The "Calendar" files register for every day the type of the day. The defined days are : week's days, Friday, weekend, holidays and five users defined days.

Files "Standard Time Table" do exist for every type of day. It defines for every machine the working hours.

The files "Modified Time Table" define for every working day the modified timetable of every machine (introduction of supplementary hours or work during the weekend for example).

Every machine is defined in a file that gives the productivity (pages / minute or length of paper / minute) and the number of operators needed.

Paper quality is defined in files "Quality" (Size, weight, etc.)

4 DOCUMENT EDITION

GOSPLAN 2 automatizes the process of printed document edition.

Starting from the selection of the type of document (paper - back, brochure, etc.) the operator is instructed by GOSPLAN 2 until all necessary files are created.

Files are created from software like WINWORD, PHOTOSHOP, CORELDRAW, etc. The files are attached to the order. Sizes are verified and alarms are flags in case of error.

5 CONFIGURATION

User can configure GOSPLAN 2 for working language, calendar, machine, production's operators, paper quality, displayed colours, etc.
